Following the discontinuation of the F-150 Lightning, Ford is preparing to unveil its next electric pickup. The new model, based on Ford's Universal EV Platform (UEV), is smaller, more efficient, and significantly more affordable, with prices starting at approximately $30,000.
A camouflaged prototype of the four-door electric pickup was recently captured testing in Arizona during hot weather conditions. Recent images provide a clear side view of the midsize truck, confirming it bears little resemblance to the F-150 Lightning and instead appears similar to the Maverick. Though compact in appearance, reports indicate the rear seating row is surprisingly spacious, and Ford claims it will offer more interior passenger space than a Toyota RAV4.
Ford is pursuing a radically different approach to reduce costs and enhance efficiency, incorporating new manufacturing techniques such as megacasting and prismatic LFP batteries. Saleem Merkt, Ford's Advanced EV Aerodynamics senior manager, stated that the new pickup's aerodynamic efficiency is more than 15% superior to any other pickup truck currently on the market, resulting in extended range and lower customer costs.
The midsize pickup will be manufactured at Ford's Louisville Assembly plant. The company plans to launch it in 2027, with customer deliveries to follow shortly after.
